Hi, I’m Danny. I want to tell you about my Wibki and how it changed the way I use the web. But let’s get to know each other first, shall we?
I’m a Legal Alien…
I’m a recent graduate from Kenyon College (in Gambier, Ohio. Check it out). I like listening to albums the whole way through, and watching sports highlights. I’m also a bit of a language nerd (I can ‘cheers’ in 8 languages). Like most grads these days, I was at a total loss for what I should do after getting my diploma. Let’s just say employers weren’t exactly knocking down my door (Spanish and Psych, who knew). So, in some last minute dramatics, I ended up heading to Tel Aviv to learn Hebrew and get a taste of start-up nation.
I began interning at an internet service called Wibki. Instead of traditional type-and-search web browsing, they designed an intuitive way to visually display your favorite websites. One fall afternoon, Shachar, our CEO, surprised me with a poignant question over falafel and fries. “Danny,” he said, “millions of websites are created every year. How many do you use?”
He had a point. Secretly I was a little jealous of my friends who were always up to date on new sites and services. I liked the idea of being tech savvy, but the internet seemed unmanageable and unwieldy. Too big, too much digital noise. I didn’t know where to begin. So instead of wandering into the abyss, I stayed with Facebook, Gmail, and Youtube. All great sites, but I had the lingering feeling that I wasn’t getting enough out of the web. Even when I did find a cool site, I forgot about it as soon as I added it to the bookmark pile. My bookmarks were such a mess that I never bothered to look inside.
“You have no idea what you’re missing,” Shachar said with a knowing smile. “It’s about time we got you started.”
A New Browsing Experience!
Back at the office I created my Wibki in 5 minutes. First I added my favorite websites to my page. Next I browsed Wibki’s hand-picked web recommendations in the “discover” section. My Wibki was shaping up! Then I took a look at my friend Emily’s Wibki page, to see if she was using any new sites.
Today my page is brimming with unique services and awesome content! Just by changing my homepage to Wibki I became an Internet insider.
Wibki Unleashed My Web Identity!
Wibki adapts to match My style and My personality. Here are just a few ways I put it to use:
Remember I said I listen to music by the album? Wibki introduced me to this great site, Grooveshark, that makes it easy to listen to every track. It allows me to queue songs and rearrange tracklists from their comprehensive music library–and it’s free!
Outside of the office you can find me shooting a basketball or tossing a Frisbee. I love sports, so of course I also love sports highlights. Our CTO, Roy, showed me 5by, a site that curates cool videos based on your entertainment appetites. I keep a strict diet of dunks, crossovers, dunks…
On my Wibki I have a tab dedicated to my quest for Hebrew acquisition. I put a verb conjugating machine, a podcast, and a translator all in the same place. Every time I open my Wibki homepage, I spend a few minutes reviewing Hebrew before I continue my day. – !אני משתפר מאוד – (I’m getting pretty good!)
Wibki has helped transform the way I interact with the online world. Now I’m the one telling people about new sites and services that can improve their lives. And you’re next. What can the web do for you?
